It is crucial that the correct mix is supplied dependant on the application. The problem is that there isn't any absolute standard for describing concrete and screeds and it can be confusing and misleading to you, the client, when trying to make the right choices and comparisons.
Easimix will always endeavour to ensure the correct mix is supplied. You, as the client, need to ensure that where prices are being compared with competitors, you are being quoted like for like in terms of quality and suitability of purpose.
Where a particular strength is specified on construction drawings you should always ensure that the concrete or screed supplied is equal or greater than that specified. Please refer to our mix classification sheet for more information.
A Cautionary Tale
A DIY customer contacted us to order concrete for a new driveway. He asked for an EM1 mix and confirmed he intended to lay it at 2 > 3" (50 >75mm) thick. We politely informed him that this mix wasn't suitable for the job and he needed to have an EM6 or EM7 with air entrainment to offer some frost protection. We also advised that the minimum depth he should consider for this application is 4" (100mm). Despite our advice he chose to use an EM1 because it was cheaper to buy as a mix and he didn’t heed our advice. Following his specific instructions we supplied the concrete to the specification ordered. About 6 weeks later we received a call from the same client, stating that his wife wasn’t happy with the finish he had achieved and asked us if we could come to the site, take out the work he had done, and finish the job to the correct standards. We duly obliged and the client’s wife stopped reminding him of his failings...all in all a costly lesson which highlights the need to use the correct mix and perhaps except that no one is an expert at everything... |
